Wireframe fidelity determines how much visual detail is included and therefore how much time they take to produce. The right fidelity depends on the purpose of the wireframes.

• Sketch/Whiteboard: Hand-drawn boxes, arrows, placeholder labels. Quick alignment on user flows with a small team. Exploratory sessions. Not suitable for stakeholder review or user testing.
• Low-Fidelity (Digital): Greyscale boxes and lines in Figma. Real labels and copy. No colour, no icons, no typography. Stakeholder alignment on layout and content hierarchy before high-fidelity. Fast to produce, fast to change. Cost: $3,000-8,000 for complete product.
• Mid-Fidelity: Greyscale with real typography and spacing. Placeholder images. Interactive links in Figma. Usability testing (removes visual design as a variable users respond to layout and flow, not aesthetics). Cost: $5,000-15,000 for complete product.
• High-Fidelity Prototype: Full visual design applied. Micro-interactions. Figma Smart Animate transitions. Investor demos, stakeholder sign-off, complex interaction testing, developer handoff reference. Cost: $10,000-35,000 (included in full visual design engagement)

Wireframes before visual design is ClickMasters' strong recommendation for any product with more than 5 screens, any product being user-tested before development, and any product where the layout or information architecture is uncertain. Wireframes separate two distinct questions: "what is on this screen and in what order?" (a content and architecture question) and "how does it look?" (a visual and brand question). Mixing them designing high-fidelity mockups while the layout is still being decided is expensive. Every change to the layout in a high-fidelity design requires reworking the visual design, not just the boxes. Wireframes allow the layout question to be resolved cheaply before visual design investment begins.
